From the Publisher

For those who not only love to read but love young ones who love to read,

Like most of you, it was in books that I discovered the world and began to discover myself. I would escape to the pond over sunny summer holidays and to the warmth of the cozy confines of the hayloft on cold winter days with a book. I traveled to Middle Earth. I explored Wonderland. And even made a temporary home on William Golding’s uninhabited tropical island setting of Lord of the Flies.

Then with my own children, we spent A Year Down Yonder in Richard Peck’s Depression era Midwestern United States. We visited 12th century Korea guided by Linda Sue Park in A Single Shard. And of course we attended Hogwarts for seven glorious terms.

Yet now we live in a time where books have become political. They are social tools, even weapons. A book should be something else. Despite the different age we live in now, a book still has the magical ability to transport a reader anywhere … and for me it can still sweep me back to an old, red barn in a meadow to that very same hayloft of my youth.

With Hayloft Books, my team and I want to encourage young readers to journey to the unknown. To explore. To ask questions. To become thinkers.

SUBMISSIONS

Hayloft Books is NOT currently accepting submissions. Please check back periodically or subscribe to our newsletter below for updates to this policy.

We believe that just as with integrity which is best shown when a person doesn’t expect someone is watching, professionalism and commitment to craft and career are displayed in the same way. Therefore as a normal practice we have a small team (of agents, freelance editors, authors, contributors, industry professionals, readers, and scouts) who attend conferences; actively participate on discussion boards, as mentors, and readers/selectors in critiques and contests; and work one-on-one with clients.

This team understands the kinds of books we hope to publish and the types of professionals with whom we wish to work. They look for those artists with sensibilities that match our our own and creators who put in the effort to their craft and will be professionals throughout the process not only of getting a book to market but the steps beyond publication to make a work successful in reaching the intended audience.

We choose people, not books.

Let's Keep in Touch.
